Design
It is a hardy rectangular box, which is available in white or pink. It’s relatively compact too, and the minimalist design is clean, meaning it won’t dominate your desk and is generally quite easy to position on a shelf or similar area. This is especially so when you also have the 3 in 1 table holder stand which we use, which enables rectangular labels to be stored and fed from underneath the printer itself, as in our setup, or you can also opt to have labels to feed from a roll. It basically takes the same surface area as the printer itself, but also organises the media stock and manages the cable. We like it a lot!
Pressing on the round button on top unlocks the top cover of the RealWriter 941AP, and it easily lifts open, allowing roll or fanfold labels to be removed ready for different stock. To begin using different stock though, you just insert from the back, with the top closed again, and the printer feeds it automatically.
Connectivity & Media Formats
Minimum to maximum widths range between 40mm-110mm or 1.57”-4.33”. So it supports a broad range of media sizes from small barcode labels to larger rectangular shipping labels. In our usage so far it has been compatible with all thermal print media we’ve put through it, and as this is a thermal label printer, it will never need ink cartridges! So the running costs are very low and maintenance is non existent, making this ideally suited for users looking to ship items; and with so many couriers like UPS and FedEx offering free thermal labels there are even more savings!
While traditional wired USB connectivity is available on this model, our priority was a wireless solution. Although many label printers support Bluetooth, we wanted the seamless, driverless experience of Apple AirPrint—and this model absolutely delivers. Setting up AirPrint couldn’t have been easier. It was simply a matter of turning the printer on and connecting it to our Wi-Fi via the Munbyn app. Within minutes, it was ready to go. The Munbyn Print app has lots of custom layout features and we found it particularly useful to use when services don’t provide a 4x6” label format, as the app makes it easy to import images and crop them to the size of the label format you’d desire before printing.
The convenience of pressing "print" on an iPhone and having a label appear almost instantly is genuinely satisfying. Once connected to your network, any Apple device running iOS or macOS can access it effortlessly. It’s a true plug-and-play experience, with no additional drivers or complex configurations required. It just works, making it a perfect fit for households or offices with multiple Apple users.
Print Performance
Our primary use for the Munbyn RealWriter 941AP is the printing of shipping labels, followed by some graphics for sticking on boxes, and custom name labels for organisations. As a black-and-white label printer, it handles detailed graphics adequately, though with its 203dpi resolution, it lacks the refinement of higher-dpi print heads.
The RealWriter 941AP is ideal for printing shipping labels, producing crisp barcodes, sharp text and defined borders. Reassuringly we’ve printed dozens of shipping labels and the feed has been consistently reliable. As we print most of them with the printer itself being in a totally different building, it is lovely to see all the labels are perfectly centred when we collect them. We haven’t had one miss-feed so far!
If you need print volume immediacy, this thing shoots the labels out and is capable of printing 150mm/second, which works out at around 72 labels per minute. Also, as we’ve now had the printer for a month, we can verify the first test printouts on Munbyn supplied label stock, which we happened to leave out in direct sunlight, haven’t shown any fading yet.
Verdict
The Munbyn RealWriter 941AP is an exceptional choice for those looking for a wireless, AirPrint-enabled label printer. Its clean, compact design, coupled with versatile media handling and low maintenance costs, makes it a practical solution for home offices or small businesses. While it may lack the ultra-fine detail of higher-resolution printers for more specialist jobs, its print performance is solid, delivering sharp text and reliable barcodes. The fast print speeds, ease of use, and durable print quality—along with seamless Apple AirPrint functionality—make it a standout option for shipping labels and organisational tasks alike.
